Changing Education Paradigms by Sir Ken Robinson

Another great video from RSA. Entertaining to watch and very informative about the state of education today. What Sir Ken Robinson is saying isn’t new. He has been an advocate to change education for years. While nothing said in this video is new, it’s nice to know changes are being made to the education system, slowly.

From this video I’ve learnt about divergent thinking a process that I’ve never heard of before. Divergent thinking refers to a thought process that is used to generate creative ideas and explore possibilities. Divergent thinking typically occurs in a spontaneous, free-flowing manner, such that many ideas are generated in a random, unorganized fashion. Many possible solutions are explored in a short amount of time, and unexpected connections are drawn. I believe divergent thinking can be closely associated with lateral thinking.
