Melbourne Design Market

Sunday, July 18th, 2010

While away in Melbourne a week ago I was fortunate enough to visit the Melbourne Design Market. Although the layout and though are pretty similar to Adelaide’s Bower Bird Bazaar it was interesting to see what is popular in other states.

While there I picked up some business cards with great typographic examples:

Bower Bird Business Cards

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

I went to Bower Bird Bazaar today and picked up some nice business cards. It’s interesting to see what other people are doing with business cards and how they fit in with their style guide.

Bowerbird Bazaar is aimed at people who are looking for handmade or unique items. Which explains why my other half felt like an alien while there.

Bodyshop stop abuse cards

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

For a larger view of the images please click on the image.

I found these while walking pass the body shop today. It’s a stop abuse campaign and were displayed in a postcard style. I found the images used to be quite powerful and made me stop to have a look at them. It has a nice use of white space, and a close up of the image makes you feel uncomfortable which is the effect they are going for.

Business cards

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

After starting class again yesterday I got interested in Business cards. I found quite a few blogs (such as the one above) which showed unusual designs for business cards and some of them really stand out. Some of the concepts I could consider when designing my own card later in the year.

I won’t bother putting them all on this page instead I will link to the sites I found:

flyer’s and business cards

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

Just a few flyer’s and a business I have picked up during the holidays that appealed to me. I found while at tafe I have hardly any time to look around and had fun picking out the ones that really appealed to me, and perhaps other people in my age group.

The use of white space and type is well done in this flyer. it’s not over done and the viewer is lead from the type to the two men in front and back again to the two men in yellow. This creates a triangle effect for me and gives the flyer some rhythm.

A flyer for a movie “persepolis” I was attracted to the simple colours and lines of the characters. This flyer actually wanted me to find out more about the movie, proving to me in any case that it was doing it’s job.

Business card for “C Salon”

This card caught me eye due to the unusual colour for a beauty salon. The logo itself works very well as a mnemonic, since every time I go pass the place I wanted to get a card. The card is actually fairly clever also working as an appointment card on the back.
