ROCKET BOOM!

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

One of my favourite you tube channels happens to be ROCKET BOOM! This latest video from ROCKET BOOM! talks about the Intel products in development or ready for market. Some of the applications are very interesting but I felt Wendy March who presented the project “Sense” understood her demographic perfectly with social media (Think Twitter, Flickr, Facebook, Myspace, etc). People would rather have their privacy compromised than look boring to other people.

I find this techonolgy really interesting and I’m excited for the future of technology.

I have to say I’m not a brand name fan but rather a technology fan. Which probably makes it a little bit harder for companies to sell to me but I’m sure they manage to do it anyway. Currently I have 14 – 16 different devices networked in my house.

Are computers intuitive?

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Early last year I wrote an article on intuition. I went into some detail on what is intuition and how it is used on interface design. I will post the article on this blog at a later date.

The other day I was watching “Cloudy with a chance of meatballs” and this clip:

Although it is meant to be an amusing parody of what a first time might be like using a computer it might not be so far from the truth.

Even 23rd beings from the future who come back in time might not know how to use a computer.

Phonebook

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

There are a million ways to interact with products. The company mobile art lab have combined an old technology that users are familiar with, with a new technology the iphone. This allows for a interaction with books on a whole new level. A book no longer becomes static, the book allows interactive explanations for methods and theorys.

Currently the technology is being developed for children’s books but could have multiple uses in the near future. I’m excited by this type of technology and hope to see more of it in the future.

Apple Tablet

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

I read in the news recently that apple were thinking about making a tablet computer that can play ebooks, music and movies.

I found this interesting since our last project was based on a digital jukebox which incorporated ebooks, music and movies. While talking with my team mates we thought it would be interesting to see how apple would design such a product? Many questions came into our minds such as what would it look like? Would apple apply their design philosophy for this product?

Read the article at news.com.au for some detail on the product.

While researching on the digital jukebox project I happen to come across a document which states the design process that apple goes by. It’s something worth having a look if you wish to be a future designer. Here’s a link to apple’s design process:

New Scientist

new scientist

Despite being a designer in training I also have a keen interest in science. Since most of my friends come from a science background, I was just the black sheep of the group.

A friend a few years ago introduced me to New Scientist magazine. While I don’t collect it on a weekly basis, I do check the website almost daily and find the technology articles most interesting.

A couple of interesting articles at the moment are:

How cellphones will enhance reality

The article goes into detailĀ  about how mobile phones could be the next step into virtual reality. Since we never quite got there from the 80′s. It’s similar to the article that Ned found called:

Touch

Another interesting article is about gaming from microsoft.

Behind Microsft’s full-body gaming interface.

Quite recently at E3 microsoft revealed it’s full body gaming interface called Project Natal. For those who missed the trailer here it is:

The article from new scientist goes into details on how it works and what could be some of the flaws in Project Natal. I will hold my judgement till it comes out and I can afford it :)

Is another video from project natal. Showing emotional responses from the player.
